Personal Mental wellbeing score doubles at FUGRO Marine

Initial reason for engagement:

FUGRO GB Marine was going through a merger and restructure which was bringing about a lot of change. As part of the merger there was also a lock down on recruitment, training and salary increase spend, all of which was contributing to the need to conduct some valuable training.

We also discovered that they were measuring Lost Time Injury frequency. They had an excellent LTIF of just 0.62 for Safety over the past3 years however when it came to mental health the LTIF was 25.4, 41 times the safety figure. This had cost them £2 million in direct and indirect costs and 33 people had left the business due to LTIF issues directly attributable to stress and mental health in a year.

The Solution:

In order to ensure that we were dealing with the complexities we conducted an Executive strategic workshop to discuss how the culture of wellbeing fitted with the business objectives.

Following this senior leadership strategic session, International Wellbeing Insights rolled out manager training and also personal resilience and stress management training to FUGRO. In order to ensure that the principles and practices were embedded and could be consistently delivered moving forwards. We also trained two people from HR on our Train The Trainer programme. This meant that HR could continue to deliver wellbeing and management training internally with our support.

The Outcomes:

We are pleased to say that following the process there were significant decreases in stress-related absences and the number of employees who scored Good-Excellent on Personal Mental Wellbeing doubled in a 12 month period.

Hear From FUGRO GB Marine

FUGRO GB Marine’s objectives prior to the workshops was to create a positive awareness about stress amongst our workforce; to equip them with the knowledge to recognise and manage stress effectively, resulting in increased productivity and reduced absenteeism. We discussed our objectives with International Wellbeing Insights before the planning process started. They were extremely helpful in ensuring that our expectations and objectives were taken on board and that the content was catered to meet our requirements.

We decided to use The Stress Management Society because from the initial contact it was clear that the people at International Wellbeing Insights understood our organisational stress symptoms as well as the environment, something which we considered essential.

The strategy and its implementation were exceptional and exceeded our expectations. The Executive Strategic workshop was extremely valuable to the project as it helped us understand what we do well and where we need to improve to help reduce stress within our organisation.

The training that International Wellbeing Insights provided was engaging, inclusive and relevant to our organisation and this was reflected in the feedback from all of our staff being incredibly positive. Managers in particular reported that they felt that they had a far greater understanding of the topic and felt much better equipped to deal with it in their teams. We are delighted to have developed the capabilities to continue to offer this training internally so we can continue the great work we have done together.

Overall our experience with The Stress Management Society was excellent and we would recommend them to any other business who are looking to tackle stress or to carry out a similar project within their organisations.
